This one’s for the bakery. Because Petite Madeline is truly the best thing about downtown Oceanside. Today I stopped in for the last time ahead of their closing.
I saw Train earlier this month, one of those really great concerts you end up LOVING. What surprised me was how much hearing those songs brought me back. Chalk one more up for nostalgia.
Auntie was accepted into San Diego’s 60th annual author showcase, which recognized books published in 2025, and so I spent yesterday attending the Expo they put together for authors with books being recognized. I thought it was an impressive gesture by the San Diego Library system, hosting us all at the central location downtown.
Resolutions and goals are right in my wheelhouse. I like resets and shifts, new ambitions and lofty targets. I like knowing change is possible, that anything is possible. A new year brings that fresh slate that feels irresistibly positive and inspiring.
My favorite book of the year was Crying in H Mart. I was so drawn in, in part because it’s well-written and emotional in ways that are uncomfortable but very real. I loved the Oregon backdrop, having been raised in Oregon myself, and, surprisingly, at least to me, was how much I felt wrapped up in the Korean culture and food.
