One More Night in Hollywood

Nine concerts in, I know that the Counting Crows have been starting their 3-number encore sets with Under the Aurora, which has a nice little “here we go again” refrain. I get the song in my head a lot, really anytime I have any reason to think anything along the lines of “here we go again.” It’s a great number to start an encore set.

Nine concerts in, I always get like this after seeing them perform. In that I’ll just have Apple Music play a shuffle of all their albums and songs anytime I’m listening to music. It’s such a joy to rediscover all their music (not that I ever forget) and remember back to my own introduction to this band that, I’m sorry, I’ve really found no equal to. The music, the lyrics, the sheer number of guys in the band, all playing multiple instruments and singing harmonies.

Nine concerts in, this one was extra special because it was at the Hollywood Bowl. I’d never been, and the Counting Crows had never played there before. Not to be missed, if you ask me. Despite the SCHLEP up the freeway (I would seriously spend a lot more time in LA if not for the relentless traffic), we had such a great time not only enjoying the Crows but also exploring the venue. Such a lovely spot, and run with incredible efficiency. In some ways it felt like a bit of a tribute to LA—they sang their Joni Mitchell cover and the Shrek song—and it gave me goosebumps to hear the “and it’s one more night in Hollywood” line while actually being in Hollywood. It drew cheers across the bowl each time Adam sang it.

Nine concerts in, I can’t wait for the next one. Because it’s the heart that matters more.
