It’s All in the Detail

I got to play tourist recently in my own city by hitting a few landmarks I hadn’t before. Who knew, for instance, that one of the ships at the Maritime Museum was used in Pirates of the Caribbean? Besides, perhaps, all other San Diegans. I’d also never been under the Coronado Bridge, so I’d never seen the beautiful architecture that can really only be seen from a boat. Which I did, while on a tour of the bay. See how when you go under it the pillars line up in an infinite-type bell pattern? Again, who knew???

It’s amazing how much there is to see even in our own backyards, how much detail we miss in our normal, everyday routines. I often feel like there just isn’t time to explore, no time to do anything outside of work and chores and maybe an occasional trip or getaway, but that CERTAINLY doesn’t leave room for exploring my own city. It’s something I’d like to do more of. Join me in exploring your own city, or at least doing one thing this summer that you haven’t yet within your own city or county. I bet you’ll be surprised and delighted, not to mention inspired to do more exploring.

Tali Nay

Tali Nay always wanted to be a fiction writer and was thus surprised when "real life" is what came out when she actually sat down to write something substantial. Tali studied writing in college, and then—entirely by accident—found herself working in business. She went on to earn an MBA, although recently left Corporate America in order to pursue her dream of becoming a gemologist. After a stint in New York City earning her diploma at the GIA, Tali now works in the gemology industry and lives in San Diego, California.
