Here we go Again

We’re in October now, but back in August I did get to see my beloved Counting Crows for the eighth time. And it just might have been my favorite. Although I probably say that for all of them, this one did have a little extra something. Partly the venue, which was smaller than normal, which meant we were closer than we’d been before. And also because staying at the hotel across from the venue meant not having to drive home late at night. Sometimes it’s the little things. Really though, the Crows never disappoint, and I love their lyrics, their talent, their plethora of guys and instruments, and the fact that some of these songs have been a part of my life since I was a teenager. Here’s to many more concerts.

Odd that we’re already into fall, that another summer has gone without anything super significant (like, I don’t know, maybe a proper vacation), but that doesn’t mean things didn’t happen. And if I had to think back on the summer, sort of at-a-glance style, it would look like MANY work trips, a couple of fun weekend trips, a new niece, another Counting Crows concert, another season of local outdoor theater, increased volunteering at the animal shelter, an unfortunate scale infestation and corresponding treatment on my citrus trees, a bumper crop and jam haul on my apricot tree, a visit from my parents, and the first traffic ticket I can remember in many, many years.

A big of a mixed bag, maybe, but I’m always grateful for what summer brings, and perhaps even more grateful for the slightly cooler weather and cozier traditions that fall brings. I feel more like writing when the weather cools down, which is perfect for continuing to work on my new book. It’s just a baby manuscript at this point, only a few thousand words, but it’s a start. Here we go again!

Tali Nay always wanted to be a fiction writer and was thus surprised when "real life" is what came out when she actually sat down to write something substantial. Tali studied writing in college, and then—entirely by accident—found herself working in business. After a stint in New York City earning her diploma at the GIA, Tali now works in the gemology industry and lives in San Diego, California.
