ranunculus

It’s funny how even with something as regular and inevitable as seasons that there is still variation. Living so close to the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, I am very familiar with how they come together each year. And when. There is, in fact, a particular weekend each year when I make my paid visit and take some pictures. It’s the weekend that tends to be, in my opinion, the most peak. The weekend where the most number of flowers look their best and fullest.

This year was a bit wacky, I guess because all the rain we’ve had made it colder? So the flowers were a couple of weeks behind. Meaning the weekend that looked “peak” was later in April than it usually is. So I adjusted my schedule and enjoyed my annual visit, which really never gets old. Nature is spectacular. So is the outcome of months and months of carefully and purposefully prepping soil and planting millions of seeds in a precise and color-based order.

I am currently writing my sixth book, and it’s safe to say the process has become pretty normal for me. In that I have a routine, a certain way of doing things, and it all takes me usually about the same amount of time. So I’m not quite sure why this book is taking me longer to write than normal. Like in nature, maybe there is comfort in some variation even in things that happen basically the same way each time. This manuscript may be behind schedule, but I’m confident the outcome will be just as bright.

Tali Nay always wanted to be a fiction writer and was thus surprised when "real life" is what came out when she actually sat down to write something substantial. Tali studied writing in college, and then—entirely by accident—found herself working in business.
