April is the Best Month

April is truly the best month. Me and my cat have birthdays, it’s Easter season, and evidence of Spring is everywhere. Even in my own backyard. This is Southern California, so it’s not as if I have much space or land on which to grow things, but I make the most of the space I do have. In the backyard this Spring I’ve had blossoms on my apricot, orange, and lemon trees. I’ve had daffodils, gladiolus, roses, camellias, glads, petunias, pansies, and jasmine. Plus the herb garden, and the succulents. Truly though, there’s no better time outside than Spring. And sitting on the patio is not only beautiful, but it also smells delicious.

The crown jewel of Spring though, at least in North San Diego County, is the flower fields in Carlsbad. I’m lucky enough to be in that area frequently, so I get the added bonus of seeing the prep that goes into the fields all year long. It makes it that much better to see the flowers bloom in March. The thing is though, that March is still too early if you want to see them at their best. That’s another thing that makes April so good…the flower fields will be at peak bloom. And despite walking by them all year long, I always choose a day in April to pay for a ticket and go in. One of the best Spring sights for sure.

So get out there and see them before the season is over, and maybe plant a few in your own yard if you can. Even if it’s just in planters. The weather is perfect, and you’ll love the end result. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to go outside and water.
